Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty (commonly known as “a nose job”) is the surgical improvement of function, symmetry and/or size of the nose. Although our noses perform functional duties (breathing filtering and humidifying the air), they are also a prominent facial feature that is front and centre aesthetically. Although the nose’s original shape is probably genetically influenced, it can also be altered by lifestyle activities and accidents such as recurring fractured noses – unpleasant but not uncommon events for some athletes and active individuals.

Sometimes nature needs a helping hand…. Rhinoplasty can also assist with:

  • Lumps and bumps
  • Previous failed septoplasty procedures
  • Collapsed nasal walls/deviations
  • Size reduction
  • The shape/positioning of the tip of your nose

Sometimes, just  improving the physical shape of your nose can also result in improved breathing and improved sleep as a result of clearer nasal passageways.

How long does it take?

The procedure itself takes 2- 3 hours depending on the complexity.  This procedure can sometimes be combined with other surgeries which may be necessary such as turbinectomies or septoplasties. This will be discussed with you at your consultation.

What is the downtime for Rhinoplasty?

Although it can take 6 months to see the full results of your rhinoplasty, recovery is usually relatively quick.  It is normal to have swelling and bruising around your nose, and you may be required to wear a supporting splint for 7 – 10 days,  Most patients can return to work within 1 – 2 weeks of their procedure.

What does a Rhinoplasty cost?

An all inclusive quote including surgical fees, day hospital fees and anaesthesia fees will be provided to you. In some cases, private health insurance benefits may apply to offset the cost.  Some Medicare support may also be available if there is a recognised clinical benefit. Again this will be discussed at your consultation.
