About Sam

Sam grew up in the Victorian coastal town of Geelong. He completed an undergraduate Bachelors degree in Physiotherapy and worked in Sports Physiotherapy before moving to Sydney, where he completed his Medical degree at University of Sydney in 2011.

Sam undertook surgical training in Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery in hospitals throughout Victoria and the North Island of New Zealand. He completed FRACS (OHNS) in 2021. This was followed by subspecialty fellowship training in Rhinology at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, Melbourne, then Paediatric ENT Surgery at Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne.

Married to Kate (a Secondary School teacher), they have three beautiful children, Poppy (6yo), Hugo (4yo) and Sylvie (1yo). Over the years, Sam has had adventures in Africa, Europe, Central and South- East Asia and Central and South America. These days, Sam enjoys bushwalking, trail running, and cooking for his family, and when he’s not in the surf, can be found making sandcastles on the beach with the kids.

Sam’s paediatric and urgent referrals policy

During his Paediatric Fellowship at the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne, Sam worked with many families to help them through some of their most challenging times. From this, and as a parent of young children himself, Sam understands the concern parents experience when a child is unwell. He also recognise that parents often endure a frustrating wait when trying to get their child into a Specialist appointment, only to find that the next available appointment is many months away.

Effective immediately, we have adjusted our appointment schedule to ensure that your paediatric referrals will be seen within 2 weeks of referral, however, Sam will aim to see many of them within 5 business days of referral.

Sam acknowledge that there will be rare occasions where he will be challenged in this commitment, especially with his ongoing responsibilities at the Royal Children’s Hospital, however, he will endeavour to uphold this promise to the best of his abilities in order to provide timely care to as many children as possible.

Sam is also available for urgent referrals, which will be seen within 2 working days.

Please forward through referrals via medical objects, tweedent@gmail.com or Fax: 0755 368 772
